There is a lovely spot midway around the left hand loop trail at the Bridge to Nowhere. A water pipe juts out of the ground in a horizontal sort of way and trickles water year round (even in the driest year) into an old bathtub. Funny thing that bath tub being cast Iron full of gravity even when its empty. How the hell did it get there? Well, anyway, it runs over into a fine mud puddle and I led a group of grateful pups up there several times in the spring of '16 before the romping green grass dried out and foxtails became dangerous. 2016 was a fabulous springtime because we got just a little extra rainfall (Noting El Niño never did show his dirty little face.) The great green lingered into late May which is a record in recent years. It was also a fabulous year for mustard greens. Every trip was followed by a rich bitter sweet salad back at the camp kitchen. Look for my Blog on Foxtails if you are wondering exactly why they are so very dangerous.
